Give to CAS Career Readiness Fund
Your gift removes financial barriers so that Winthrop students can say “yes” to life-changing
unpaid internships.
Last semester, I was working three jobs to support myself and take some financial
burden off my parents... This scholarship removed some of the financial burden of
my tuition, which helped me leave one of my jobs. I now have more time, energy, and
attention to dedicate to my internship.
The CAS Career Readiness Fund has allowed me to afford the art supplies that I needed
to plan my lessons and teach the children.
The CAS Career Readiness Fund allowed me to be able to do this internship and not
worry about financial security. Since I had to cut a lot of my work hours to meet
my internship schedule, I would not have been able to graduate on time without this
scholarship.
I had very little experience working with adolescents prior to beginning this internship.
This experience has given me the opportunity to get practical experience with this
age group, solidifying my interest in working with children and adolescents.
This internship will give me hands on experience that I can put on my resume. It will
help to grow my confidence and allow me to hone my teaching skills. It will give me
experience that I can put to good use in my future career when I am teaching my own
art classes.
I have always wanted to work in nonprofits so that I could give back to my community.
I really enjoy working at the museum and I hope that I can find a job there or somewhere
similar after graduation.

For many students, especially those with financial responsibilities, accepting an
unpaid internship is simply not an option. As a result, talented and driven students
can miss a critical part of the career preparation that their college experience is
meant to provide.
The CAS Readiness Fund provides scholarship funding for Winthrop University College
of Arts and Sciences students who secure unpaid internships, enabling them to gain
meaningful professional experience while remaining enrolled full time.
