This special event recognizes the accomplishments of our teacher candidates as they complete the Teacher Education Program and prepare to enter their professional careers. The candidates have met the challenges of a demanding preparation program and are now ready to enter their own classrooms as competent teachers who are dedicated to helping all students learn at high levels.
Winthrop University has a long, well-regarded tradition of teacher education, and it is quite common for me to hear district superintendents, principals, and human resources directors say that they look to hire Winthrop graduates. The candidates we celebrate today will represent Winthrop well and, more importantly, they will have a great impact on the lives of many students and will be teacher-leaders in their schools.
Please join me in congratulating our graduates! Congratulations also to our faculty members who worked so diligently with these candidates, and to the excellent classroom teachers who mentored the candidates during their various field and clinical experiences.
