The Sustainability minor provides students with the knowledge and tools to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time: how to meet the needs of today while ensuring that future generations can thrive. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, students explore how sustainability shapes both human systems—such as economies, communities, and policy—and natural systems, including ecosystems, biodiversity, and environmental change.
Students in the program learn to think critically about complex global issues and to apply sustainability principles to real-world problems. Coursework emphasizes practical skills such as systems thinking, problem solving, and evaluating trade-offs between environmental, social, and economic priorities.
As sustainability becomes central to decision-making in business, government, nonprofit organizations, and the sciences, employers increasingly value graduates who understand these challenges. The Sustainability minor complements a wide range of majors—from business, biology, and environmental studies to public policy, engineering, and the social sciences—helping students stand out in a competitive job market while preparing them to contribute to a more resilient and responsible future.
