Athletic training is a health care profession that includes prevention, diagnosis,
and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment,
functional limitations, and disabilities. Athletic trainers collaborate with physicians
to enhance activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic trainers are
employed in the following settings:
Hospital & Clinical
Colleges & Universities
Industrial/Occupational
Military
Performing Arts
Physician Extender
Professional Sports
Public Safety
Secondary Schools
Students may choose to pursue a graduate degree in a related area. According to the
National Athletic Trainers' Association, more than 70 percent of certified athletic
trainers hold at least a master's degree.
