The Major

Why Study Accounting?

The study of accounting is an exciting course of study leading to a career as a public or private accountant. By studying Accounting, students acquire the essential technical abilities and critical thinking skills required to be a leader in communicating the language of business.  Courses are designed to expand the student's horizons beyond the traditional view of accounting as strictly a record keeping function.  Students learn the role of the accountant as a key member of the senior management team contributing on a regular basis to the betterment of the organization.  Students learn to analyze business situations, prepare reports and present their findings.  They learn about the vital importance of being an excellent oral and written communicator.
