Mission Statement

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies serves as a home for many of the interdisciplinary majors and minors within the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition, we seek to both reflect and extend the larger mission of the University as articulated in its Vision of Distinction and in the Statement of the Nature and Character of the University.

Toward those ends, we strive to:

• challenge our students to think deeply, embrace difference and diversity, and seek a broad understanding of other peoples, perspectives, beliefs and values
• prepare out students for life, learning, and leadership in an interconnected and globalized world.
• enable our students to explore and understand an ever-increasing body of knowledge across multiple disciplines.

The department is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service, broadly defined. We encourage collaborations between our faculty, students, and the greater global community.
