Resolution Regarding the Establishment of New Academic Programs

WHEREAS, pursuant to S.C. Code Ann. §59–125–1, et. seq., the Board of Trustees of Winthrop University is created and established as a body corporate for the purpose of effectuating the educational mission of Winthrop University; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to Winthrop Board of Trustees Bylaws art. IV(C), the Board of Trustees is empowered to define the scope of the University’s academic mission including the establishment of new academic programs to further such mission; and

WHEREAS, that on April 30, 2026, the Winthrop University Board of Trustees, upon the recommendation of President Edward A. Serna, hereby establishes the following academic programs and concentrations:

- New Program

  • Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Counseling

- Two New Concentrations

  • Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Individualized Studies
    • Concentration in Strategic Applied Studies
  • M.L.A. in Liberal Arts
    • Concentration in Criminology and Criminal Justice

- Program Renaming

  • B.A. in Game Design to BA in Game Design Studies

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Secretary to the Board of Trustees shall certify that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees approved this resolution on the 30th day of April 2026, in a regularly scheduled meeting. Such resolution shall be maintained and publicly posted by the Secretary of the Board in a time and manner as required by law.
