WHEREAS, South Carolina Code Ann. § 23-20-10, et seq., authorizes mutual aid agreements for law enforcement services between and among state, county, municipal and local law enforcement agencies for law enforcement support services;
WHEREAS, the City of North Myrtle Beach Police Department and Winthrop University Police Department desire to participate in such an agreement for the purposes of securing the benefits of mutual aid for special events and other law enforcement activities;
WHEREAS, it is the desire and intent to pursue their joint undertaking for the provision of mutual aid and assistance by the assignment of officers and agents between jurisdictions to the fullest extent as is allowed by law;
WHEREAS, each of the requesting parties seeks to span the geopolitical boundaries to the fullest extent allowed under South Carolina law for the express purpose of mutual aid by this sharing of personnel and resources; and
WHEREAS, the Winthrop University Board of Trustees must approve the mutual aid agreement and does so now for the purpose of satisfying statutory requirements.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees hereby approves the Mutual Aid and Law Enforcement Support Agreement with the City of North Myrtle Beach (attached and included herein by reference) and authorizes the execution of the agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Secretary to the Board of Trustees shall certify that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees approved this resolution on the 8th day of April, 2026, in a special called meeting. Such resolution shall be maintained and publicly posted by the Secretary of the Board in a time and manner as required by law.
