Resolution Regarding An Honorary Doctorate for Mr. Glenn McCall

WHEREAS, Winthrop University is authorized to award both earned and honorary degrees, and

WHEREAS, Winthrop University recognizes the significant achievements of individuals through the awarding of an honorary degree, and

WHEREAS, Mr. Glenn McCall was a graduate of Amberton University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in management information systems, and he held a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Maryland, and

WHEREAS, A U.S. Air Force veteran, Mr. McCall served for 24 years, 10 years on active duty and 14 years in the Texas Air National Guard. Always community minded, he was a proud resident of Rock Hill who contributed his time and expertise to numerous groups. Before retirement, Mr. McCall had built a distinguished career at Bank of America where he rose to the level of senior vice president, leading the consumer customer behavior analysis group, and

WHEREAS, Mr. McCall was active in politics with the South Carolina Republicans, elected in 2008 as their first African-American national committeeman. He was then named one of two vice chairs for the 2016 Republican National Convention. He was previously the York County GOP's first African-American chairman, served as chair of the budget committee for the Republican National Committee and was co-chair for the Committee on Arrangements for the 2020 Republican National Convention, and

WHEREAS, Mr. McCall joined the Winthrop University Board of Trustees in 2011 and was serving as Chairman at the time of his death. As a Board of Trustees member and longtime Chairman, Mr. McCall led the university to a burgeoning new prosperous future. His outstanding service and dedication to the university and our community makes him an exceptional candidate for an Honorary Doctorate,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Winthrop University Board of Trustees concurs with the recommendation of the Honorary Degree Review Committee and the President that Winthrop will award Mr. Glenn McCall an honorary degree at a mutually acceptable time,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Secretary to the Board of Trustees shall certify that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees approved this resolution on the 30th day of October, 2025, in a regularly called meeting. Such resolution shall be maintained and publicly posted by the Secretary of the Board in a time and manner as required by law.
