ORLANDO, FLORIDA — Two Winthrop University business administration majors got up close and personal this month with finance experts, an Oscar-nominated actress and authors at National LINC (Learn, Inspire, Network, Collaborate) 2018, TD Ameritrade Institutional's annual conference for independent registered investment advisors (RIAs).
Tanaka Chimbane, of Hillsboro, Texas, and Salvador Perez, of Orlando, Florida, traveled to Orlando for the 4-day conference with Philip Gibson, assistant professor of finance in the College of Business Administration. Only 56 students from 28 colleges and universities across the United States were
invited.
These students had the chance to explore job opportunities and connect with more than
3,000 financial advisors and other financial services industry professionals and experts
from across the nation, including Ian Bremmer, president of the Eurasia Group; April
Rinne, advisor with Pathfinder and member of the World Economic Forum; Viola Davis,
award-winning film and television actress; and Marc Goodman, a best-selling author.
They also heard about the convergence of financial services and technology from a
keynote panel on innovation that included Adena Friedman, president and CEO of Nasdaq;
Tim Hockey, president and CEO of TD Ameritrade; Ric Edelman, executive chairman of
Edelman Financial Services; and Lex Sokolin, director of fintech strategy at Autonomous.
National LINC NextGen Program is just one component of TD Ameritrade's industry-leading
commitment to help attract young talent to the financial planning profession. Since
2007, the firm has been inviting undergraduate financial planning students and their
program directors from schools across the U.S. to attend its annual conference, covering
travel and hotel expenses for them to do so.
