ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – This spring, Winthrop University students elected Victoria Williams as the new Student Government Association president and Emanya Roach as the new vice president.

The two will take over their leadership positions in the fall through the spring semester of 2026 in what is a restructured student governance group. In October 2024, the Winthrop Board of Trustees voted to move from a Council of Student Leaders format to a Student Government Association, which changes the election method, adds more officers and more committees, according to the resolution.

As student body leader, Williams will give quarterly reports to Winthrop’s Board of Trustees about student happenings and oversee the appointment of student representatives to a variety of university committees.

A rising senior biology major with a minor in chemistry, Williams hails from Columbia. A member of the Council of Student Leaders since 2022, she has served as Campus Safety chair and was the vice chair of the council for the 2024-25 academic year. Her other campus involvement included participation in the Close Scholars program, the Diversity Peer Educator program and the Xi Beta chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Roach is a rising senior majoring in elementary education. Also from Columbia, she has been actively involved on campus as a Close Scholar, an ambassador for the Richard W. Riley College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences, and as treasurer of the Vision of Prayze Gospel Choir. She has also served as a peer mentor and peer coach for the past two years.

Williams and Roach ran on the platform of “Now is the T.I.M.E to move Winthrop FORWARD,” which stands for Transform, Invest, Maximize and Empower. They are excited to lead with purpose and heart, and will work to build a student government that listens, uplifts and advocates for all students.
