ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University Board of Trustees’ members took action on several items at an Oct. 12 regularly scheduled board meeting.

Trustees approved the renaming of two key academic areas to better describe the evolving mission of their operations.

The College of Business Administration will become the College of Business and Technology, a long-desired shift that acknowledges important programs like computer science, cybersecurity and more under the college’s umbrella of academic offerings. The Graduate School will become the School of Graduate, Continuing, and Online Education to reflect the expansion of its academic offerings to meet the needs of post-traditional student populations. This includes the introduction of competency-based education (CBE) degrees and credentials, professional doctorates, and micro(stackable) certificates.

Both name changes will take effect on or before July 1, 2024.

As for campus operations, board members awarded:

*Complete Demolition Services the abatement contract for Wofford and Richardson residence halls.

*Dach Enterprises the contract for the McLaurin Hall flood repair work.

*Architectural firm McMillan Pazdan Smith the contract to begin design work for a new cafeteria.

In other action board members also approved:

*2023-24 goals and objectives for President Edward Serna ’02.

*A contract with Walk 2 Campus for use of around 50 rooms at CampusWalk apartment building to handle an overflow of new and transfer students during the fall semester.

*Course fees for the spring 2024 semester.

*A candidate for a future honorary degree to be announced at a later date.
