Academic Affairs added a new faculty level this year to give standing to an unrecognized group. The title of senior instructor has existed at other universities and for a long time at Winthrop, but there was no process on how to attain the title, van Delden said. A new policy and procedures were codified last year.
The title of senior instructor applies only to non-tenure track faculty who are full time. Those who hold the title will have been employed at Winthrop for five consecutive years at the instructor rank, and taught at least six course sections per year during the review period. There also will be a $2,500 pay increase for those promoted to this level.
Promoted to the rank of senior instructor in the College of Arts and Sciences, Kara Beasley, English; Cassandra Bell, biology; Amanda Campbell, English; Amanda Covington, English; Bryan Ghent, English; Stephanie Nielsen, human nutrition; Sarah Titman, social work; and Chris Ward, social work; in the College of Business and Technology, Richard Ilson, computer science; in the Richard W. Riley College of Education, Sport and Human Sciences, Geoff Morrow, physical education; and Kimberly Oxley, education core; and in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, Julia McCallum, music.
