ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Award-winning actress Shanola Hampton ’98 will return home to Winthrop University May 9-10 and headline a number of events during her visit.
Best known for her portrayal of Veronica Fisher in Showtime’s award-winning television show “Shameless,” Hampton currently produces and stars as Gabi Mosely in the NBC drama series “Found.” Hampton also is the face model of Rochelle in the video game “Left 4 Dead 2.”
May 9 Events
Hampton will spend May 9 giving two presentations, one to students and the other to campus and community members.
In the afternoon, Hampton will talk to theatre and dance students, recent graduates and prospective students on the transition from college to the entertainment industry.
Since moving to Los Angeles in 2001, Hampton has extensive acting experience, making appearances in more than a dozen movie and television shows. Her role on “Found” has earned her a Gracie Award and Critics Choice Award and NAACP Image Award nominations.
From 5-6:30 p.m., Hampton will be the main attraction in an “Evening with Shanola Hampton” in Byrnes Auditorium. The emcee for the evening is theatre graduate Kalaylah Chisolm ’22, ’23. During her public talk, Hampton will connect her Winthrop experience with her career in the entertainment industry, how she has chosen to give back, and the responsibilities that come with being in the limelight. There also will be time for Hampton to answer questions from the crowd.
Afterwards, Hampton will meet attendees in the Byrnes lobby and pose for photographs.
The event is free and open to the public. Those who plan to attend need to register here by May 2.
May 10 Commencement Speaker
Hampton also will deliver the Commencement address at the May 10 10 a.m. Undergraduate Commencement ceremony that will be held at the Winthrop Coliseum. Hampton will be sending off the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the College of Arts and Sciences graduates with thoughtful advice for the next phase of their lives. Winthrop also will bestow upon Hampton an honorary doctor of humane letters degree to celebrate her success in the entertainment field and as one of Winthrop’s most recognizable alumni.
