ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Winthrop University will welcome new students and transfer students during Orientation sessions in June and August.

Freshmen entering in the fall are required to attend one of four Orientation sessions. Family members are encouraged to take advantage of Family Orientation, a program offered concurrently with the first day of each of the student sessions.

Kanisha Rollings, director of New Student and Family Programs, urged news students to be curious, be open and be ready to grow. “Your journey starts here. ‘Bring the You’ that is prepared to learn, engage and rise to new challenges,” she said. “Throughout your experience, you will have a dedicated community to support, guide and encourage you every step of the way.”

Orientation is a program designed to assist new students and their families in adjusting to life as a Winthrop student. During Orientation, new students meet current student leaders, faculty and staff, receive information on academic expectations, opportunities for involvement, and what it means to be part of the Winthrop community and to live in the residence halls.

In addition to registering for classes and meeting with their academic departments, freshmen will receive a copy of the university’s common book, “Callings: The Purpose and Passion of Work” by Dave Isay.

Rollings, Alicia Marstall, with the New Student and Family Programs, and the student Orientation staff have designed programs and activities so students will interact with upperclassmen, Orientation faculty mentors, key campus personnel and each other to build a network of support for their Winthrop experience.
