ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – The Winthrop University community has lost an Eagle who was known for her easy smiles, bright spirit and compassion for others.

Emily “Mily” Ho, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away on April 29 at the age of 22 years old.

A junior pursuing mass communication, Ho was a valued member of Winthrop Esports’ award-winning social media and content team. Her teammates and professors remember that she consistently looked out for others.

“Mily was an incredible person and a valued and loved member of our Winthrop Esports family,” said Esports Head Coach Josh Sides. “She was talented, creative, and always there to help those in need. I know we will all miss her deeply.”

Teammate Kaya Singh said Ho had the “gift of making people feel welcome, and made all new students in the program feel at home.” Singh recalled that when Ho learned Singh didn’t have anyone to help her move because her parents were in India, she dropped everything to help. “She even went back to her own apartment to get cleaning supplies,” Singh added.

Her happiness and spirit extended to the rest of campus as well.

Mass Communication Chair Nathaniel Frederick served as Ho’s advisor and professor and said she was an especially nice student, adding, “I enjoyed having her in class and as an advisee.” Bill Schulte, associate mass communication professor, remembered her as “very sweet, very funny and so vibrant.”

“Mily always had a kind smile, high energy and would go out of her way to yell, ‘Hi, Jerry!’” remembered Jerry Fussell, associate director of operations at the DiGiorgio Campus Center.

Ho is survived by her parents, Misty and Chan Ho, and her younger sisters Alysha and Jacquelin.

The viewing and services will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 TN-153, Hixson, Tenn., 37343, on Sunday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
