Board Members Confer Emeritus Status to Faculty, Approve of Latest Tenure and Promotion

  • The eight faculty members who were granted emeritus status have a combined total of 226 years of service, according to Provost Adrienne McCormick.
  • Board members also supported the nominations for tenure and promotion as presented by the Division of Academic Affairs.

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — The Winthrop University Board of Trustees approved recently retired or retiring faculty members for emeritus status and heard about the latest faculty promotions at its June 19 board meeting.

The eight faculty members who were granted emeritus status have a combined total of 226 years of service, according to Provost Adrienne McCormick.

They are: Laura Gardner, professor of fine arts; Mark Herring, dean of library services; Gloria Godfrey Jones, associate professor of English and dean of University College; Antigo Martin-Delaney, associate professor of psychology; Linda Pickett, associate professor of elementary education; Joseph Prus, professor and chair of the Department of Psychology; William Rogers, professor of biology; and Anna Sartin, associate professor of theatre.

Board members also supported the nominations for tenure and promotion as presented by the Division of Academic Affairs.

The 15 faculty members granted tenure are below by college and department: in the College of Arts and Sciences are: Fatima Amir, chemistry, physics and geology; Gregory Bell, history; Jessica Hamm, mathematics; Clifton Harris, chemistry, physics and geology; Dustin Hoffman, English; Kathryn Kohl, biology; Wanda Koszewski, human nutrition; and Aimee Meader, mass communication. In the College of Business Administration are: Andrew Besmer, computer science and quantitative methods, and Tracy Griggs, management and marketing. In the Richard W. Riley College of Education are: Bettie Parsons Barger, curriculum and pedagogy; Joni Boyd, physical education, sport and human performance; Crystal Glover, curriculum and pedagogy; David Schary, physical education, sport and human performance; and Lindsay Yearta, education core.

There were nine faculty members promoted to professor. In the College of Arts and Sciences, promotions were given to Nicholas Grossoehme, chemistry, physics and geology; Matt Hayes, psychology; Jason Hurlbert, chemistry, physics and geology; and Darren Ritzer, psychology. In the College of Business Administration: Willis Lewis, accounting, finance and economics, and Michael Matthews, management and marketing. In the Richard W. Riley College of Education: Janet Wojcik, physical education, sport and human performance; and in the College of Visual and Performing Arts: Douglas Presley, music and Jason Tselentis, design.

Promoted to the rank of associate professor from assistant professor are 16 faculty members. In the College of Arts and Sciences, they are: Gregory Bell, history; Jessica Hamm, mathematics; Clifton Harris, chemistry, physics and geology; Kathryn Kohl, biology; and Aimee Meader, mass communication. In the College of Business Administration: Andrew Besmer, computer science and quantitative methods; Tracy Griggs, management and marketing; and Michael Whitney, computer science and quantitative methods. In the Richard W. Riley College of Education: Abbigail Armstrong, counseling, leadership and educational studies; Bettie Parsons Barger, curriculum and pedagogy; Crystal Glover, curriculum and pedagogy; and Lindsay Yearta, education core. In the College of Visual and Performing Arts: Justin Isenhour, music; Marvin McAllister, theatre and dance; Jeffrey McEvoy, music; and Seth Rouser, fine arts.
