Emerging Leaders

About Us

The Emerging Leaders program is designed to educate and empower 20-25 first year students for positional leadership roles at Winthrop University. The program is designed to offer incoming freshmen the opportunity to explore their leadership potential and abilities through education of leadership theories and practices, as well as personal leadership exploration.

Students are highly encouraged to live on the same  co-ed floor of a residence hall (however, are not required), share academic courses, and go on a leadership retreat just prior to the start of Welcome Week. In the fall semester, participants will engage in a leadership class together on Mondays from 2 p.m.-3:15 p.m., as well as share an ACAD 101 section on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:15pm

This program is highly selective and an opportunity for Winthrop's new students to enter into a world of leadership.   Those interested in applying for 2019 are  encouraged to select Leadership Explorers on their Housing Application and must attend Orientation Session 1,2,3 or 4. Orientation Session 5 conflicts with the Emerging Leaders Retreat. Click here for application Application is due by June 28, 2019.
