Lead teachers of each classroom are master early childhood educators with advanced degrees in their field. Undergraduate and graduate students assist lead teachers as they work together to support the growth and development of the whole child (intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally) using culturally relevant and sustaining practices. Macfeat provides each child with a unique opportunity to explore, create, experiment and socially interact with other children and caring, competent adults.
The school is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), an organization that recognizes outstanding early childhood programs which meet national standards of quality. Macfeat is licensed by the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS).
Macfeat also serves as a research site. Throughout the school year, faculty members, graduate, and undergraduate students from various university departments spend time in Macfeat observing, participating and interacting positively with the children. Through such positive and varied experiences, children develop a sense of trust in the goodness and wonder of the world.
