I am delighted that you are taking the time to explore Social Studies Education at Winthrop. This is an ideal major for students who have a love of history and the social sciences and want to share their excitement for these fields with high school students. We have recently redesigned this major so that our students are better equipped to teach all of the various classes found in high school social studies departments.
Our graduates frequently teach not only history courses but also economics, sociology,
psychology, government, and geography. Middle school certification in social studies
also is available with only a few extra courses.
As the director, I work closely with social studies majors to ensure that they move
through the program in a timely and academically successful manner. I encourage any
student with an interest in social studies to come and talk with me.
