WHEREAS, pursuant to S.C. Code Ann. §59–125–1, et. seq., the Board of Trustees of Winthrop University was created and established as a body corporate for the purpose of effectuating the educational mission of Winthrop University; and
WHEREAS, Winthrop last concluded a comprehensive campaign in 2015, and the bylaws of the Board of Trustees require its approval in the development and implementation of future campaigns; and
WHEREAS, the Winthrop University Foundation Board has provided the financial support that has enabled the Division of University Advancement to contract with a campaign consulting firm; and
WHEREAS, during much of 2024 the campaign consultant conducted a Campaign Strategy Study which included a campaign readiness assessment and interviews with key donors to review campaign priorities and assess those individuals’ willingness to participate in a campaign, as well as a database analysis to determine philanthropic capacity; and
WHEREAS, the results of all of the above elements were taken into consideration as the Winthrop University Board of Trustees, at its February 2025 retreat, heard the campaign consultant’s recommendation that Winthrop enter the silent phase of a comprehensive campaign.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, upon that recommendation, as well as at the request of Winthrop University President Edward A. Serna, the Board of Trustees of Winthrop University hereby approves the Division of University Advancement to move forward at a time of the division’s choosing to enter the silent phase of a comprehensive campaign and then to enter subsequent phases as appropriate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Acting Secretary to the Board of Trustees shall certify that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees approved this resolution on the 1st day of May, 2025, in a regularly scheduled meeting. Such resolution shall be maintained and publicly posted by the Acting Secretary of the Board in a time and manner as required by law.
