Search for the 12th President for Winthrop University

The Board of Trustees is well underway in the search for the next President of Winthrop University. The successful candidate for the presidency will honor the academic enterprise, have an appreciation of and affinity for the traditions and milieu of Winthrop and the region, and have experience with the demands of leading a public university. The board seeks a visionary leader with strategic perspective, a commitment to preparing students for productive and fulfilling lives, exemplary communication and interpersonal skills, and a collegial leadership style. The next President of Winthrop will be an exceptional fund- and friend-raiser for the University.

As announced on June 25, the chair of the Presidential Search Committee is Trustee Julie Fowler, who will coordinate the board’s work on this most important undertaking.  The resolution passed by the board and this news release include additional details regarding the search. Dr. Fowler’s communications to the campus community detail the progress the committee has made over the last months.

Off-campus, in-person interviews of a group of semi-finalists will tentatively be held in early February. It is important to note that this schedule may change, as candidates’ health status and ability to travel may play a role in scheduling. Once the in-person interviews are completed, the committee will invite finalists to campus. As has been the case in the past, there will be an announcement of the finalists, and their qualifications will be shared with the campus and community through a press release and this website. The campus visits will allow ample time for the finalists to spend time with the search committee, vice presidents and deans, cabinet, students, faculty and staff leadership, Winthrop Foundation leadership, etc. A public presentation and meet and greet will give the campus, alumni and greater Rock Hill community opportunities to reflect on the candidates’ qualifications and leadership presence. A feedback form will be available on this website for individuals to share their reflections with the search committee.
