Bachelor of Science
Take your career in software engineering to the next level. This degree provides students with a solid foundation in software development, computing principles and practical skills for today's technology-driven industries. Students begin with fundamental programming and analytics coursework and advance to applied topics such as database systems, cybersecurity, operating systems, and software project management. With an emphasis on hands-on learning, collaboration, and mastery of multiple programming languages and environments, graduates will be prepared for careers in software development, mobile and web applications, systems analysis, DevOps, and more.
Learn moreThe ASEN program provides two paths to graduation: a four-year comprehensive track for students beginning their undergraduate studies or a 2+2 degree intended for students that have completed their Associate in Applied Science in Computer Technology - Programming Specialization (AAS.CPT.PROG) at a South Carolina technical college.
Acceptance into the 2+2 ASEN program is limited to students that have completed the AAS.CPT.PROG degree from a South Carolina technical college. Almost all of the courses required for the associate's degree will count directly toward the requirements of the ASEN degree, allowing most 2+2 students to finish their degree at Winthrop in two years - two fall semesters and two spring semesters. Additional admissions criteria for transfer students can be found on Winthrop's Transfer Information web page.
Many of our seniors have multiple job offers months before graduation, and nearly 100 percent of our graduates accept a full-time position within three months of starting their job search.
Join the ACM or STARS computing club, participate in contests ranging from local hack-a-thons to regional intercollegiate programming competitions, and learn from nationally known speakers and alumni at events.
Winthrop's computer science professors are award-winning experts in their fields, whose primary responsibility is teaching, not research funding. And with class sizes ranging from 12-30 students, they'll get to know you and your career goals.
Bachelor’s degree holders earn 38.5 percent more than the median earnings for associate’s degree holders across all fields. With the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicting that demand for software developers will grow 25 percent over the next ten years—much higher than the average for other fields—graduates of Winthrop’s applied software development program will be well-prepared to stand out and take advantage of this growth.
