Dr. Young is an Associate Professor of Game Design at Winthrop University, with extensive experience in interactive multimedia design and development across a broad range of disciplines and focuses. He has made significant contributions to these fields through both academic and industry roles. At Griffith University in Australia and Zayed University in the UAE, Dr. Young played a key role in developing interdisciplinary bachelor programs in Multimedia Design, earning multiple exemplary faculty awards and securing strategic initiative grants. His Ph.D. research covers program evaluation and educational technologies, areas in which he has published extensively over the past three decades. Most recently, he presented a paper at the 17th International Conference on Game and Entertainment Technologies in Budapest, Hungary, in July 2024.
In Australia, Dr. Young led Griffith University's Flexible Learning Initiative’s educational design and oversaw interactive digital media production with a large multidisciplinary team. He also directed interactive media at a leading Australian television and film production facility, Cutting Edge, demonstrating his commercial production expertise. At Rabdan Academy in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Dr. Young was an Associate Professor and Director of Institutional Effectiveness, involved in accreditation and evaluation processes as well as guiding the development of interactive media and learning systems. Dr. Young’s teaching portfolio includes courses such as Interactive Digital Media Production, Game Design, User Experience (UX) and Interaction Design, IT Policy, Ethics and Law, and Higher Education Management. His dedication to education is further evidenced by his many leadership roles and his extensive experience in research supervision.
Additionally, Dr. Young is a classically trained pianist, having achieved a Licentiate of Trinity College, London. He has been a musical director for dozens of live theatre productions in Brisbane, Australia. Furthermore, Dr. Young is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales, bringing a unique legal perspective to his interdisciplinary expertise.
