David Vergato is a professional musician and music educator with experience teaching band, orchestra, jazz ensemble, guitar, and general music classes. Presently, Mr. Vergato is the Director of Orchestras, Guitar, and Music Theory 1 at Providence High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor of Music at Winthrop University, where he teaches applied bass lessons and bass repertory class. He also plays regularly at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, and can frequently be found performing in the Charlotte region.

Mr. Vergato has earned a Bachelor of Music in Studio Music and Jazz Performance at the highly acclaimed University of Miami Frost School of Music, a Graduate Certificate in Teaching from UNC Charlotte, and a Master of Music Education from Winthrop University (having transferred there from UNC Greensboro), and is currently working towards a Doctorate in Music Education from Liberty University. He has been teaching full time since 2006, building and improving the music programs in the schools. He has held professional memberships with the National Association for Music Education, NCMEA Orchestra Division, International Association for Jazz Education, North Carolina Bandmasters Association, South Central District Bandmasters Association, and International Society of Bassists.

Mr. Vergato’s students have earned top chairs in regional and state honors orchestras and bands. Ensembles under his direction have earned Superior and Excellent ratings at adjudicated performances, and have performed at the Southern Christmas Show, the South Central All-District Band Festival, Walt Disney World, Dollywood, and Carowinds.

As a freelance bassist, he has acquired extensive performance experience in a wide variety of musical styles from jazz to classical, musical theater, rock, funk, and contemporary Christian music, and is one of the top bassists in the Charlotte region. He has performed with the Charlotte Symphony, Rock Hill Symphony, Union Symphony, Jazz Arts Charlotte, Charlotte Squawks, Denver & The Mile High Orchestra, John Mark McMillan, Leonard Jones, Chad Lawson, Natalie Merchant, Steve Lippia, Five By Design, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Ben Vereen, The Platters, The Smothers Brothers, members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and many others.

Mr. Vergato's professional objective is to teach students to foster a deep appreciation and love of music through study and mastery of musical performance, while continuing to grow as a musician and educator.
