Mary Horn Garber was raised in the northern Chicago suburbs but moved to the York County, S.C., area for family reasons in the early 1990s. Always a theatre lover since childhood, she became involved as an adult with her first musical theatre audition, which quickly turned into becoming a costumer for local theatre companies and taking custom work.
In 1999, Mary worked directly under Oscar winner Deborah Scott on “The Patriot,” performing all of the hand-detailing stitching on the costumes. When her children graduated, it was suggested that she pursue her passion for music and theatre by finishing her degree. She enrolled at Winthrop University and graduated in May 2024 with a B.A. in Theatre Technical Design and a minor in vocal performance in music.
She has worked with Carowinds, OperaCarolina, Opera Theatre Saint Louis, the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, Coastal Carolina University, and Myrtle Beach Area Children’s Theatre. Mary teaches theatre workshop and costumes productions at Carolina Forest High School.
