Recreational
Facilities and Opportunities
Winthrop’s recreational
facilities fall into two categories: those open to the general
public, and those that are available only to members of the
Winthrop community (faculty/staff/students), Inn at Winthrop guests and other designated
groups.
Many of the recreational opportunities afforded the general
public are located at the east campus Lake Area Recreational and
Research Complex (reference farm map) approximately 1 mile from
central campus off Eden Terrace. The complex comprises the
Winthrop Coliseum, Winthrop
Lake and numerous athletics and recreational fields. The
challenging 18-hole disc golf course surrounding the lake and
coliseum has been the site of the U.S. and World Disc Golf
championships. A one-mile loop surrounding the Winthrop
Lake is one of approximately five miles of walking and bike trails
that criss-cross the complex and conveniently connect to Rock
Hill’s public trails.
Members of the Winthrop community, Inn at Winthrop guests and
other designated groups also may access a number of other
recreational facilities including a 9-hole golf course and a new
12-court
tennis
complex.
A group team-building experience at Winthrop’s
Outdoor Educational Center (ropes course) also may be
arranged for a fee.

Recreational Sports Office, 803/323-2198.
