Financial Assistance

Scholarships are available to applicants with strong academic qualifications.   You are automatically eligible for a scholarship with a grade point average of 3.5 and an SAT of 1250 (math + verbal).  Other students may also be eligible based on strong academic performance.   The value of the scholarships vary according to each individual scholarship.

Talent-based scholarships also are awarded by individual colleges, as are athletic scholarships by particular coaches. Graduate Assistantships are available to highly qualified graduate applicants.

International Ambassador Scholarship

The International Center provides a limited number of scholarships to selected undergraduate students that wish to serve as International Center Ambassadors.  These Ambassadors volunteer to help promote the goals of the International Center, support international students at Winthrop University and promote international understanding among local students and the broader community.

Scholarships will be awarded by the International Center Scholarship Committee.   The scholarship applies during the Fall and Spring semesters (typically not during the summer sessions).   During the Fall and Spring semesters recipients would receive $250 per semester plus pay in-state tuition.   The total value of the scholarship is estimated at $10,000 per academic year.

Click here to access the International Ambassador Scholarship application.  Submit your essay to The International Center of Winthrop University, 701 Oakland Avenue, Rock Hill, South Carolina, 29733, USA.  You may also submit your essay via email to international@winthrop.edu.

On-campus Employment

International students are allowed to work on campus, but not off campus.  On campus jobs are available and international students can compete with other students for those positions.  On campus employment can be no more than 20 hours per week during the semesters and pays approximately $6 per hour.    On campus employment can not be considered when meeting the requirement for evidence of financial support.
