C.B.A. Leadership Series Continues
In this age of constant change, adaptability and quick thinking are keys to business success, President Anthony DiGiorgio told faculty, staff and business students during the inaugural College of Business Administration Leadership Series lecture on Oct. 22.

DiGiorgio addressed the topic of “Leadership in the Shift Age,” a term popularized by strategist and author David Houle in his book “The Shift Age.” This period, characterized by more focus on the individual and rapid, frequent and sometimes unpredictable change, has created an atmosphere where flexible and nimble-minded leaders will thrive.

“Advantages today will be to those with the ability to adapt, to capitalize on change. To do this, individuals must be nimble. They must be vision-driven and market-wise, and they must take actions based on real-world issues in real time,” said DiGiorgio, noting that Shift Age leaders need to build organizations around the strategy of adapting to and benefitting from change.

Jim Olson, executive-in-residence in the College of Business Administration, a retired Toyota Motor North America senior vice president and Toyota advisor, continued the Leadership Series on Thursday, Nov. 19, with a lecture entitled “Becoming an Ethical Leader.” Olson was one of the longest-serving external affairs chiefs in the auto industry and worked for Toyota for more than 18 years. During his time with Toyota, Olson devised a 20-year public relations plan to upset Ford, GM and Chrysler as North America’s top-ranking car companies. He also served as the first chairman of the Automotive Hall of Fame from a foreign-owned automaker.

The C.B.A. Leadership Series is a new event designed to allow business students to interact directly with business leaders. In the future, series events will occur once per semester. For more information about the series, contact Martha Spears, associate dean of the college, at ext. 2596.
