Greg Lewis Voted Player Of The Year

    ROANOKE, VA – Senior forward Greg Lewis was named the 2002 Big South Conference Player of the Year and sophomore forward Tyrone Walker was honored as a member of the All-Big South second team during the mens basketball awards banquet Wednesday night at the Hotel Roanoke.

   Lewis, who leads the conference in rebounding with 10.4 per game, is averaging 15.6 points heading into the top seeded Eagles' opening round game on Thursday with No. 8 seed Liberty.  Lewis also ranks third in the nation for double-doubles with 17. 

    Walker ranks second on the team in scoring and rebounding with averages of 11.2 points and 6.1 rebounds.  He was the 2001 Big South Rookie of the Year.  His top game this year was a 25-point effort in Winthrop's 66-61 upset victory over Clemson.
