 Casey Family Scholars Scholarship
The end of foster care shouldn't be the end of caring," said Ruth Massinga, President of Casey Family Programs. "As young people in foster care reach the age of 18, most face the world alone with few permanent connections and little family support. Our scholarships will provide both the funds they desperately need to continue an education as well as caring adults who share their dreams of the future."
Casey Family Scholars aims to help decrease the financial barriers to higher education faced by foster youth in need, and to support their success through the provision of mentoring. To this end, the Casey Family Programs teamed up with OFA and launched a new scholarship effort during the 2001-02 school year.
The Casey Family Scholars Program, which is administered by OFA, provides scholarships of up to $10,000 to young people, under the age of 25, who have spent at least 12 months in foster care and were not subsequently adopted. The scholarships were awarded for the pursuit of post-secondary education, including vocational/technical training, and are  renewable each year based on satisfactory progress and financial need. In addition to the money, Casey Family Scholars will receive ongoing support through the OFA's vMentor program.

The Hildegard Lash Merit Scholarship
In 1987, Mrs. Hildegard Lash died penniless, the victim of financial abuse by a trusted fiduciary. She and her husband had owned a glove factory in Germany that was confiscated by Hitler. After emigrating to New Jersey they continued in the glove business and had one son, Herbert, who died young. Mrs. Lash, an accomplished concert pianist, valued learning and believed young people who work hard deserve support and recognition.
The Hildegard Lash Foundation was established in 1997, after the embezzled funds were recovered by the foundation's trustees. In honor of Mrs. Lash's memory, the Hildegard Lash Merit Scholarship was created to recognize outstanding scholarship and community service by a college student who has no family supporting their goals and efforts. In addition to applauding the students' scholastic achievements, being selected as a Lash Scholar is recognition that the recipient is an asset to society who has already overcome many obstacles in their young life.

The Hildegard Lash Merit Scholarship is an OFA sponsored scholarship and as such the application procedure is the same as for any other scholarship administered by OFA.  Students do NOT specifically apply for this scholarship; rather, they fill in OFA’s general scholarship application and may be awarded the Hildegard Lash Merit Scholarship based on eligibility and achievement.

Rather than addressing her as a woman with one interest, one style, and one perspective - we see her and speak to her as multidimensional. Time Warner Inc. acquired full ownership of ESSENCE® Communications in 2005. ESSENCE® and Time Warner share a commitment to serve the public, enrich people's lives and strengthen communities around the world.
