Teaching Squares
The Teaching Squares Project enriches teaching and builds community through a structured, non-evaluative process of classroom observation and shared reflection.
A Teaching Square consists of four faculty participants from different disciplines who:
- Observe at least one class taught by each Square Partner (a total of 3 observations)
- Share reflections with Square Partner
- Reflect on the class observation experience
- Meet as a Square and share experiences
- Share experience in a final meeting with all participants
The Teaching Square experience offers you the opportunity to enrich your teaching by observing your Square Partners in an actual classroom situation. The experience gives you the opportunity to:
- Observe, analyze, and celebrate good teaching
- Increase your understanding of and appreciation for the work of colleagues
- Experience the joy and confusion of being a student
- Formulate a plan for enhancing your own teaching based on your observations and reflections and the shared reflections of your Square Partners
