About the TLC
The Center began in 1991 as the Office for Effective Teaching. Its three faculty co-directors were charged with defining good teaching, considering teaching as a scholarly activity, and recommending means for assessing, supporting, and acknowledging good teaching. Their work resulted in a permanent Center and a
variety of professional development services.
The Center's director, Dr. Dave Rankin, is assisted by Dr. Gary Stone, Coordinator of the Faculty New to Winthrop Program, Ms. Lisa Cowart, Coordinator of the Welcome to Winthrop orientation program for new staff, Dr. Marge Tebo-Messina who coordinates the Winthrop Invests in Lifelong Learning (WILL) literacy program, Ms. Linda Campfield who coordinates reporting for WILL, and Ms. Dana Bruneau, administrative specialist.
The Center, which is part of University College, reports to Dean Gloria Jones. Its activities are guided by the Professional Development Advisory Board (PDAB), who meet regularly to review past and current programs as well as make recommendations for programs that are best suited to reflect our development as a learning-centered community.
PDAB Members: Mr. Patrice Bruneau, Ms. Barbara Davis, Dr. Laura Glasscock, Mr. Walter Hardin, Dr. Gary Stone, Dr. David Vawter, Ms. Annie-Laurie Wheat, and the TLC director.
