NC Campus Compact 10th Annual Faculty Service Learning Conference

International Service-Learning Pre-Conference Institute

 “Developing and Expanding International Service-Learning on Your Campus” 

On February 20, 2007, NC Campus Compact will host this Institute for campus teams of individuals involved in or interested in international service-learning. Teams will learn about best practices and develop campus plans for international service-learning programs and courses for their students. Service-Learning Conference

On February 21, 2007, NC Campus Compact will host the 9th Annual Service-Learning Conference featuring 28 workshops by over 65 faculty, staff and students on service-learning theory and practice, a keynote address by Dr. Barbara Holland, Director of the National Service Learning Clearinghouse, and presentation of the Robert L. Gulf- South Summit on Service Learning

and Civic Engagement through Higher Education

March 14-16, 2007

Tulane University  New Orleans, LA

The Gulf-South summit will feature over 42 sessions and a roster of nationally prominent speakers. 
 Summit goals include:

  1. To explore the roles and responsibilities of higher education in civic engagement.
     

  2. To build greater awareness of service-learning and civic engagement activities
     

  3. To facilitate dialogue and networking among service-learning advocates and practitioners
     

  4. To foster the development of service-learning and civic engagement infrastructures within post secondary institutions as a means of institutional and faculty renewal
     

  5. To provide a forum for presenting and discussing service-learning research
     

  6. To explore the theoretical and practical implications of service-learning and civic engagement
     

  7. To increase knowledge about effective partnerships for higher education institutions, community-based organizations and projects including K-12
     

  8. To develop strategies for utilizing the scholarship of engagement in disaster preparation, response, and recovery

Winthrop University’s Faculty Service Learning Institute
Tuesday, May 09, 2006

This Institute, sponsored by The Teaching and Learning Center, Student Life, and University College, was a one day professional workshop focused on Service Learning.   Workshop topics included:

  • Methods and models of integrating service-learning into curricula

  • Establishing community partnerships

  • Facilitating critical reflection and evaluation

  • Service Learning resources

All Winthrop faculty were invited to this free workshop.  Over 25 faculty attended!
