KWANZAA
CELEBRATION

Reception / 7:00 Program
McBryde
Hall
The
Office of Multicultural Student Life will provide the Winthrop University community with the opportunity to
participate in this year’s Kwanzaa, an event rooted in the
celebration of family, community and culture.
While
Kwanzaa was created to introduce and reinforce the seven basic
principles of African culture, it is a time when the entire community
gathers together to give thanks for life, crops, and each other. As
such, our goal is to inspire and encourage the Winthrop University
community to gather together in celebration to this end.
This
year’s Kwanzaa event promises to be both educational and
entertaining and will feature dance and musical selections by
Bryan Ingram, The Association of Ebonites, Dance in Motion, The West
African Drum Ensemble and Vision of Zion, as well as a spoken word
performance by Winthrop University Junior, Angelo Geter. In
addition, African arts & crafts vendors will be on hand to display
their products at the event and our keynote speaker -
Lorraine D. Acker, Assistant Dean of Students for Minority
Student Support Services & Women's Programs at UNCC - will address this
year's highlighted principle -
