Bachelor of Arts in Sociology
Recent
graduates in sociology have secured positions in criminal
justice, social work, city and urban planning, teaching,
management, banking, sales and marketing. Others have gone on
to pursue advanced studies in sociology, social work, criminal
justice, urban planning, law and business
administration.

Concentration
in Criminology
The
department also offers a 33-semester hour option in
criminology. This option provides training for a wide variety
of occupations in corrections, law enforcement and the
judiciary. Criminology does not focus on techniques of police
investigation or other applied courses, but focuses on
providing a broad liberal arts education. Courses include
Criminology, Criminal and Juvenile Justice Systems, Law
Enforcement and Social Control, and Corrections. An
18-semester hour sociology minor is also available.
Requirements
Certificate Program in
Gerontology
The core
content of the program includes current knowledge about the social,
psychological and biological changes associated with aging and information
concerning programs and services for older people. Any student
currently in good academic standing in the University may be admitted to
the program. In addition, those who are not students, for example
people working in a profession serving older people, may also enroll in
the Certificate Program by meeting university admission requirements.
The curriculum
was created based on standards and guidelines for gerontology programs
created by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE). Completion of the requirements for the Certificate in
Gerontology will appear on the student's official transcript.
Students must maintain a minimum grade point ratio of 2.0 for
undergraduate certificate credit.
Requirements
Minor in Sociology
The minor in Sociology consists of 18 semester hours of SOCL:
SOCL 101 or 201, and 15 additional hours in SOCL, 6 of which
must be in courses numbered above 299.
Minor in Anthropology
The minor in Anthropology consists of 18 semester hours to
include ANTH 201, 202, and 12 additional hours in ANTH, 6 of which
must be in courses numbered above 299.
