Obstacles to Success

The first step is the easiest: identify obstacles to your success. What are they? What factors limit your success? Are they academic? Nonacademic? Both?

Low grades discourage many students. To successfully graduate, you must maintain a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 2.00. Requirements in some majors such as teacher education programs are higher.

Is your GPA below or dangerously close to the minimum needed to graduate in your field? If so, first fill out an Analysis of Poor Course Performance form for each course in which you experienced academic difficulty last semester. Include all courses in which your final grade was D, F, N or U. In some cases, you might find it useful to complete a form for courses in which you earned a C as well.

If your GPA is comfortably above the minimum needed to graduate in your major, you might want to skip the Analysis of Poor Course Performance and go directly to the Checklist of Obstacles.

Check out the GPA Calculator for assistance in figuring out your grade point average.
