Department History
Winthrop has offered food and nutrition courses
since 1887 and began dietetics education in 1917. The American
Dietetic Association (ADA), a national organization of more than
66,000 dietitians and nutritionists committed to improving the
health and nutrition status of Americans, has been responsible for
all educational programs in dietetics since the 1940's. Winthrop has
continuously offered ADA approved or accredited programs in
nutrition and dietetics since that time. The department currently
offers a CADE accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), and a CADE
accredited Internship. The Department of Human Nutrition also offers
two additional undergraduate degree options, Nutrition Science and
Food Systems Management, and a Master of Science degree in human
nutrition.
