Model UN XXXI

MUN XXXIII Coming Soon

The Human Rights Council is an international body within the United Nations system.  This council's purpose is to address human rights violations.  The United Nations General Assembly established the Human Rights Council on March 15, 2006.  The vote to establish the Human Rights council was opposed only by the United States, Marshall Islands and Palau, and Israel.  The Human Rights Council has no jurisdiction or authority except to make recommendations to the General Assembly , which will in turn advise the Security Council.

For those delegates whose countries will be a part of the Model United Nations Human Rights council, it is recommended that you research prevalent issues that face both your country and region today and what if anything, is being done to overcome those troubles.  Has the Human Rights Council assisted your nation-state before or is your country currently a top priority for the Human  Rights  council?  While you may be unable to solve all of the crises faced by the council, you can at least take steps in the right direction.  In preparing for this committee, consult the Human Rights Council's website to find additional information regarding the organization itself and pertinent topics.  The website is: http://www2.ohchr.org/english/bodies/hrcouncil/ .
