Advisor Invitation Letter

This letter is sent to each advisor to introduce the new Secretariat members and notify everyone of the conference dates and theme.

Delegation Preference Form

PLEASE USE THIS WEB FORM AS IT HAS THE UPDATED COUNTRY LIST
(Country Assignments for first countries will be postmarked October 1, 2008)

This is the list of countries that will be represented at the WUMUN conference. Schools are asked to pick their top eight choices and send the form back in to us. The Secretariat assign the country choices on a first come, first serve basis. Preference forms will not be addressed until September 10, 2008 so as to allow all schools to receive the initial mailing.
It is important to return these forms to us ASAP to ensure a country assignment for your school. Once 2nd country assignments have been made in December, we are unable to allow any additional schools to sign up unless there is a cancellation.

2nd Country Assignments

Schools that have indicated an interest in accepting a 2nd country assignment will be notified of their assignment after December 1. Please keep in mind that the goal of our conference is to encourage the largest variety of participation. We hold 2nd county assignments so as to allow as many schools as possible to register and receive at least one of their top 5 country choices.

 Tentative Schedule

This is an outline of the three day conference including time for registration and Opening Ceremonies.
Schedule is subject to minor changes to accommodate conference events.

Conference Fee Information

Participating schools are asked to pay a modest Conference Fee to help cover the expenses of putting on such a large scale conference. This form has a tear off section at the bottom to be returned to WUMUN along with the appropriate payment.
Full conference fee payment (not to include lodging costs or meals) must be received by WUMUN no later than February 29, 2009.  If the monies have not been received by this date and we have had no correspondence with the advisor, your country assignment will be cancelled and reassigned.

Advisor Information Packet

The Secretariat have put together a packet of information especially for advisors that are new to our conference. Returning advisors may find this information just a useful as well. The information includes how to build debate skills with your students. We encourage everyone to take a look and provide any feedback.

Residency Rates and Information

Schools are responsible for making their own reservations for overnight accommodations during the conference. We have provided a list of a few hotels that have special "Winthrop Rates" and are located near campus.

Eating on Campus

There are a number of locations on Winthrop's campus where delegates can grab a quick meal between committee sessions.  Click on the link below for locations and pricing.

Research Guidelines

In an effort to encourage good debate, we have provided another packet of information about how to research your assigned countries.

Rules of Procedure

The WUMUN uses Robert's Rules of Order as a basis for our debate proceedings. This book is a condensed version and are the official rules for our conference.

Briefing Folder Outline (word copy)

This outline is used by Dr. Van Aller in the PLSC 260: Model United Nations class as a prep for country and issue research. We encourage students to utilize this outline to help prepare them for every aspect of the MUN conference.

Amendment Form

The Winthrop MUN uses resolutions in each of the three main committees that are written by the participating high school students. Resolutions are submitted at least eight weeks prior to the conference and then sorted and assigned by the Secretariat and committee chairs. Each committee information link has an example of a resolution and outline. The link above is the one for Amendments that delegates may want to submit in committee. Please use it as an outline to help facilitate an organized debate.
