STUDENT
ELECTRONIC MEDIA
Electronic media
are a department function governed by the
Student
Electronic Media Board.
WINR Radio is a
student radio station that broadcasts on the campus cable
system and on FM 98.3 online from the Department of Mass Communication
studio in Johnson Hall. Volunteers audition for air shifts
each semester. The station is managed by a student station
manager and a student program director who receive advice from
a faculty station supervisor and a faculty program supervisor.
Experience in a place like WINR is especially important for
students who want to enter professional radio because today’s
automated stations no longer have positions in which students
can get on-air training.
Winthrop
Close-up video news magazine is a
15-minute video news magazine produced weekly. Staff
positions are open to all students regardless of major.
Students in MCOM 425 and 446 form the staff foundation. This
is an excellent way to get experience writing, interviewing,
shooting and editing video and to get an audition DVD for that first job interview.
