Campus Housing

Residence Halls

All first and second year students at Winthrop University are expected to live in an on-campus residence hall unless they have family near the University.   Almost 2,200 students live on Winthrop’s campus which makes it the best way to meet people and be active in the campus community.   The campus is small and safe, so everything you need will be within easy walking distance.  There are a variety of residence halls, all with access to cafeterias and with free laundry facilities.  click here for room and board rates                                 (Photo:  Lee Wicker, a traditional-style hall)

Traditional Halls- Winthrop traditional-style residence halls offer students the best opportunities for socializing and interacting with their peers in a setting designed to introduce students to college life.   12-16 students living in double rooms share a large hall bathroom.

Suite-style Halls- Winthrop’s suite-style halls house mainly juniors and seniors; Shared by four students, a suite offers two double rooms, connected by a bathroom which has a sink, shower/tub and toilet facilities.

Roddey Apartments-  This one and two bedroom apartment community houses married couples, families, International, graduate and undergraduate students. Furnishings are provided.

The Courtyard at Winthrop- The Courtyard is a deluxe suite style housing option with all the conveniences of campus life. Furnishings are provided.

Traditional and Suite-Style Room Furnishings
• two bunkable extra long twin-sized beds
• two chests of drawers
• two desks
• two chairs
• two closets or wardrobes
• one MicroFridge (small refrigerator and microwave)
• local telephone service jacks
• cable television outlet
• air conditioning
• high speed Internet connection
• voice mail

Items you should bring or buy once you are here

You will need to furnish your own linens, pillow, and telephone. The beds require extra-long twin sheets.  Information will be inserted into your housing  packet on how you can order extra long sheets.   Other suggested items are: an iron, a study lamp, an alarm clock, hangers, an umbrella, etc.  Those in Thomson, Lee Wicker, Phelps, and The Courtyard at Winthrop will need bathroom cleaning supplies. Once your roommate is assigned, you will be able to plan what to bring with him or her. There are several retail department stores in Rock Hill in which these supplies can be purchased.
