Overall, the climate is quite
pleasant and permits outdoor activities all year long.
Winthrop students enjoy picnics at the Winthrop Lake, free
access to the Winthrop Golf and Disk (Frisbee) Golf Courses,
and use of the indoor swimming pool on campus. Due to the
large number of flowering trees that bloom in Rock Hill
every spring, students with allergies are advised to bring
their allergy medications with them.
Within a 2 to 3 hour drive,
skiing is available in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The popular
Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head Island, and Kiawah Island Resorts
(3 to 4 hours by car) offer some of the best beach
experiences in the Southeast. Students are advised to pack
everything from a swimsuit to a light winter coat.
