GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP INFORMATION

Ten graduate assistantships are assigned to the College of Visual and Performing Arts and are distributed as follows:

 

Department of Art & Design – 4
Department of Music – 6

 

DEPARTMENT OF ART & DESIGN

 

Assistantship #1

Title:    Assistant to Technical/Safety Director

            Qualifications:  Regular admission to MFA program

            Duties:  Provides technical and safety assistance to the director; monitors all 3-D studios

  for efficiency and safety

Relevance:  Direct relationship to situations encountered in the profession, relationship

        to creative search and/or research via studio experiences

            Hours per Week:  20

            Stipend:  $3,000 annually ($1,500 per semester)

            Fee Waiver:  Covers up to 9 semester hours of tuition

 

Assistantship #2

Title:    Assistant to Visual Resource Director

            Qualifications:  Regular admission to MFA program

            Duties:  Provides assistance to the director; catalogues and indexes photographic slides

  for the Slide Library

 

Relevance:  Direct relationship to situations encountered in the profession; relationship

        to creative search and/or research via slide library experiences

            House per Week:  20

            Stipend:  $3,000 annually ($1,500 per semester)

            Fee Waiver:  Covers up to 9 semester hours of tuition

 

Assistantship #3

Title:    Assistant to Supervisor of Computer Technology

            Qualifications:  Regular admission to MFA program

            Duties:  Provides assistance to the supervisor, monitors labs, specialized work in

  hardware/software needs of the lab

Relevance:  Direct relationship to situations encountered in the profession, direct

        relationship to creative search and/or research via computer lab experiences

            Hours per Week:  20

            Stipend:  $3,000 annually ($1,500 per semester)

            Fee Waiver Covers up to 9 semester hours of tuition

Assistantship #4

Title:    Teaching a Course as Instructor of Record

            Qualifications:  Eligibility begins with post-30 earned hours including 18 or more in the

  major area toward the 60 required hours of the MFA degree, successful

  interview with the department chair, faculty recommendations required

            Duties:  Provides technical and safety assistance to the director; monitors all 3-D studios

  for efficiency and safety

Relevance:  Direct relationship to work situations encountered in professional work.

            Hours per Week:  20

            Stipend:  $3,000 annually ($1,500 per semester)

            Fee Waiver:  Covers up to 9 semester hours of tuition

 

DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC

 

Assistantship #1

Title:    Assistant to Director of Choral Activities

Qualifications:  Regular admission to graduate music degree program or MAT;

  skills/experience in teaching in a middle school or high school choral

  program desired

            Duties:  Assists in sectional and full rehearsals as assigned, provides administrative

  assistance as needed, planning and coordinating tours, off-campus performances,

  maintains class rolls, assists with publicity and recruiting

Relevance:  Direct relationship to situations encountered in the profession, relationship

        to administration of a choral program

            Hours per Week:  20

            Stipend:  $3,000 annually ($1,500 per semester)

            Fee Waiver:  Covers up to 9 semester hours of tuition plus appropriate applied fees

 

Assistantship #2

Title:    Assistant to Director of Bands

            Qualifications:  Regular admission to graduate music degree program or MAT;

  skills/experience in teaching in a middle school or high school choral

  program desired

            Duties:  Assists in sectional and full rehearsals as assigned, provides administrative

  assistance as needed, planning and coordinating tours, off-campus performances,

        to administration of an instrumental program

            Hours per Week:  20

            Stipend $3,000 annually ($1,500 per semester)

            Fee Waiver:  Covers up to 9 semester hours of tuition plus appropriate applied fees

 

Assistantship #3

Title   Accompanist

            Qualifications:  Regular admission to graduate music degree program or MAT; strong

  accompanying skills/experience as demonstrated by audition

            Duties:  Accompanies choral ensembles as required, additional assignments to applied

  studio(s) as requested

Relevance:  Direct relationship to situations encountered in the profession, relationship

        to career as a professional accompanist

            Hours per Week:  20

            Stipend:  $3,000 annually ($1,500 per semester)

            Fee Waiver Covers up to 9 semester hours of tuition plus appropriate applied fees

 

Assistantship #4

Title:    Assistant to the Music Librarian

            Qualifications:  Regular admission to graduate music degree program or MAT; advanced

  organizational skills; skills/experience working in a music library

  environment desired

            Duties:  Assists in all aspects of the operation of the Music Library including check

  materials in and out, providing assistance to students and faculty as requested

Relevance:  Direct relationship to situations encountered in the profession, relationship

        to administration of music library materials

            Hours per Week:  20

            Stipend:  $3,000 annually ($1,500 per semester)

            Fee Waiver:  Covers up to 9 semester hours of tuition plus appropriate applied fees

 

Assistantship #5

Title:    Music Theory Assistant

            Qualifications:  Regular admission to graduate music degree program or MAT; strong

  background in music theory; skills/experience in teaching and/or tutoring

  students in music theory desired

            Duties:  Coordinates study sessions and tutoring for the music theory program

Relevance:  Direct relationship to situations encountered in the profession

            Hours per Week:  20

            Stipend:  $3,000 annually ($1,500 per semester)

            Fee Waiver:  Covers up to 9 semester hours of tuition plus appropriate applied fees

 

Assistantship #6

Title:    Percussion Assistant

Qualifications:  Regular admission to graduate music degree program or MAT; strong

  background in percussion studies and familiarity with percussion

  equipment and their uses

Duties:  Assist the Head of Percussion Studies as needed; arrange for specific percussion

  equipment for various departmental activities; assist in assigning parts to all

  percussion majors for various ensembles; maintain percussion maintenance and

  inventory

Relevance:  Various (direct relationship to professional activities as a percussionist)

            Hours per Week:  20

            Stipend:  $3,000 annually

            Fee Waiver:  Covers 9 hours of tuition plus appropriate applied fees
