Winthrop Receives Million Dollar Planned Gift for Scholarships
Winthrop University friend and supporter Tom Slaughter will contribute through a trust and will bequest to the Slaughter-Wilkerson Endowed Scholarship, to which he has already contributed $200,000. The scholarship is already being awarded, and Mr. Slaughter’s planned gifts will add to the existing scholarship. (2/27/2009) Learn more about the Slaughter gift.
Alumni Reunion Celebration Is Fast Approaching
The classes of 1934, 1939, 1944, 1949, 1954, 1959, 1964, 1969, 1974 and 1979 are invited to return to campus for Alumni Reunion Celebration 2009 held on May 15-16, 2009. More information will be provided as it comes available (2/27/2009)
Reed Fellows to Be Created with $1.2 Million Gift
Elizabeth Hope Reed ’41 has given a $1.2 million planned gift to establish a scholarship for Winthrop students. The Reed Fellowships will provide scholarship funds in support of the academic and experiential learning of talented Winthrop students. (2/11/09) Learn more about the Reed gift.
Scholars Walk Brick Campaign Underway
Alumni, friends, faculty, and staff have the opportunity to help cement their relationship with Winthrop by purchasing an engraved brick to line Scholars Walk, the new pedestrian walkway in the heart of campus. Bricks also may be purchased in honor or in memory of someone. All proceeds will be used to support the Winthrop Fund. (2/11/09) Learn more about the Brick Campaign.
Introducing the Winthrop Fund
The Loyalty Fund will now be known as the Winthrop Fund. Because this unrestricted fund is a way for alumni and friends to support today’s key institutional priorities, we feel that this new name more appropriately communicates everything you do for Winthrop in making your annual gift. Winthrop Alumna's $1.25 Million Gift to Create Business Trading Center
Vivian Moore Carroll '73 and her husband Larry Carroll will donate $1.25 million to the College of Business Administration's new business facility to be called the Vivian M. Carroll Hall. The Carrolls' gift will provide initial funding for electronic trading equipment within a new business and trading center to be named the Carroll Capital Markets Training and Trading Center, as well as an endowment for center operations, future equipment upgrades, and academic and community educational programming.
