Entrance & Exit Counseling Information

Winthrop University is required to provide entrance and exit counseling to loan recipients. Federal regulations require that the University counsel each first time loan recipient on your rights and responsibilities as a borrower.

Entrance Counseling
Manage your educational expenses...

Before receiving a student loan, borrowers must complete an entrance counseling session. This quick and easy interactive counseling session provides useful tips and tools to help you develop a budget for managing your educational expenses and helps you to understand your loan responsibilities.

To complete entrance counseling:

 
  • Go to: http://www.dlservicer.ed.gov

  • Click “Entrance & Exit Counseling” at the top of the page.

  • Click “Take the Entrance Counseling session.”

  • Read the information carefully and proceed to take the quiz. 

 * *Be sure to select Winthrop University as your school. * *

After taking the quiz, the Office of Financial Aid will be notified that you
have successfully completed the counseling session. Print the confirmation page
and keep it with your important papers.

Exit Counseling
Understand your rights and responsibilities...

Prior to graduating or leaving college, borrowers are required to complete an exit counseling session. This online exit counseling session has been created to make sure that you understand your rights and responsibilities as a Direct Loan borrower.

To complete exit counseling:

 

  • Go to http://www.dlservicer.ed.gov

  • Click “Entrance & Exit Counseling” at the top of the page.

  • Click “Take the Exit Counseling session.”

  • Follow the login instructions:
    * Enter your social security number
    * Enter the first two letters of your last name
    * Enter your date of birth (MMDDYYYY)
    * Enter your FAFSA PIN
    * Submit

  • Read the information carefully and proceed to take the quiz.

If you have forgotten your FAFSA PIN, click on “Forgot your PIN or want to change it?” and request a duplicate PIN.  You should receive your PIN in about 72 hours.


Your exit counseling information is automatically submitted to Winthrop University when you pass the quiz.
