About the Area
Winthrop's tree-lined campus encompasses a rich architectural
blend of neo-Georgian buildings and is included in the
National Register of Historic Places. The campus is centrally
located near downtown Rock Hill, a city of more than 50,000.
Founded in 1852, Rock Hill is in the eastern central part of
York County, S.C., which is adjacent to the Mecklenburg and
Gaston counties of North Carolina. Charlotte is approximately
20 minutes away by car, while the Blue Ridge Mountains and
Carolinas coastline are within a 3-4 hour drive. This area of
the Carolinas is called the Piedmont.
