INTERNSHIPS
updated 11 July 2008
Internships are available and often serve as stepping stones to employment
and entry into professional careers. Although internships are not required
for graduation, they are encouraged. Students can earn up to three house
of credit toward their environmental degrees. Internships are available at a
variety of institutions and corporations in the area.
Students must make their own arrangements for internships in consultation
with the Program Chair. Consult the
internship form for further directions. Internships can be taken as
1-credit, 2-credit or 3-credit courses.
Some recent examples of internships include the following:
- Developing a recipe for Winthrop's Earth Tub compost system (1 credit)
- Working with the Public Information Resource Group on getting candidates
to discuss their stand on environmental issues during the presidential
primary campaigns (3 credits)
- Doing graphic design work with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (summer, 3 credits)
- Working on air emission analysis at Bowater
(local paper mill) (3 credits).
- Water quality analysis at a sewage treatment
plant (3 credits).
- Working on community recycling education
with the City of Rock Hill (3 credits)
- Working with York County Storm Water
Division (3 credits)
