March 29: Working Toward Sustainability:
This event formally recognizes the signing of the
Talloires Declaration by our university
president. In addition, Dr. Tom Kelly from the University of New Hampshire
offered insights into the development of a campus plan to realize the general
goals of the Talloires Declaration and into how sustainablity initiatives on
campus can be successfully monitored.
- March 30: Leave-Your-Car-At-Home event: A
symbolic walk-bike event that starts and finishes at Dinkins and encourages
participants and observer to use cars less often and educates them on the
negative environmental impacts of automobile usage. (cancelled due to
heavy rains)
- March 31: Ozone Problems in Our Area:
An Air Quality Forum: A panel of experts examined the local ozone
problem from multiple perspectives. Dr. Pat Owens discussed the
formation of ozone. Dr. Michele Sinn, highlighted the human health
impacts of tropospheric ozone. Ms. Laura Boothe provided insight into
regulatory issues facing the Charlotte-Metrolina region and Mr. Eric Greenway
discussed how air quality informs the local planning process.
