• Congratulations to the class of 1973 for giving the largest reunion gift to Winthrop. Their class total is $265,855. Congratulations also to the class of 1958 for having the highest percentage of giving. A total of 84 classmates out of 243 contributed to their class gift. Reunion class gifts are the gifts and pledges made by members of a particular class celebrating a reunion to support the Loyalty Fund. All gifts or pledges made between July 1 and June 30 of a reunion year are included in the reunion class gift.

• Ask not what your economic stimulus package can do for you... but how you can use it to help your alma mater. This year many will receive the rebates approved by Congress in hopes of stimulating the American economy. At a time when state allocations continue to shrink, we hope you’ll consider making your donation this year with a portion of your refund. Your gifts – from tax refunds or not – promote growth at Winthrop University.

• We asked students, and they responded! So far, students have made Go Gold for Life a success. Go Gold for Life is a student giving program that educates students on the need for private support once they graduate. Students are asked to make a gift of any amount to the Loyalty Fund. More than $1,900 has been raised from 457 students, ranging from freshmen to graduating seniors. Volunteers from the Student Alumni Council have encouraged their classmates to make a gift and educated them on the importance of supporting Winthrop.

• Making a Bequest. While there are many options for planned giving, Winthrop receives the majority of planned gifts via bequests. The popularity of charitable bequests can be attributed to several factors. Most donors are familiar with bequests, and find these arrangements simple to understand. Charitable bequests are flexible and may be of any amount and may take several forms. Learn more about how to include Winthrop in your will.
